About Boston Terriers
The breed, which was founded in Boston, has earned the nickname the "American Gentleman" due to their easygoing nature. Boston Terriers are wonderful, outgoing family companions. They are energetic and are always ready to go on an adventure with their owner. Bostons are amusing with their antics and get along well with strangers and other animals. They are often described as having a larger dog temperament in a compact, smaller package. They are not excessive barkers due to this, and their size, they are considered an ideal city-dwelling breed. Bostons are an ideal companion but are highly trainable and can also excel in performance sports like dock diving, nosework, FastCAT, and agility.
Boston Terriers range from 12lb-25 lbs and have a smooth coat that does shed. They come in a few AKC accepted colors (white and black, brindle, or seal), but are easily recognized by their tuxedo-style markings. Due to the smooth nature of their coat, they are considered a low-maintenance grooming breed. However, their nails require regular clipping and dremeling. In order to maintain the health of the breed, parents should have completed health clearances for BAER (hearing), eyes, and patellas in order to receive a CHIC number from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.
